Continuing Education Rules & Regulations for Alabama Private Investigators
If you're a licensed private investigator in Alabama, you must meet specific continuing education requirements to renew your license. Continuing Education Requirements
- Private investigators in Alabama must complete 16 contact hours of continuing education per two-year renewal period.
- A minimum of 8 hours must be earned in each calendar year of the renewal period.
- 2 of the 16 hours must be in Ethics.
- Up to 8 hours may be earned through self-study or online self-paced courses per renewal.
- Extra CE hours cannot be carried over to the next renewal period.
Steps to Receive Continuing Education Credit
- Attend approved continuing education that meets APIB standards.
- Obtain a certificate of completion for each course.
- Affirm completion of your CE on the license renewal form.
- Provide documentation (the CE Reporting Form and certificates) only if you are selected for an audit. Retain certificates for approximately three years.
